Bockö

September 29, 2011

Blekinge Matvik 110923-25 In late September usually MKK spend a weekend in Hällaryd and after last year's kulingtur we thought it was time to return to normal again. So while the west remained pretty well the whole week before, so it died down just in time for Friday. The prognosis in general was ok, although the risk of a little splash, but still warm in the air. It was just water that had already reached the winter temperature ..

Going out Friday night

We were seven, Dagmar, Marja, Pär-Anders, Heidi, Henry, Carin and I left Malmö, just before four. We passed the farm shop in Tollarp 10 minutes after closing time, but after explaining the urgent need we had with us two pies ..
Swung into the parking lot at Nytäppet just before the sun went down, fast packing, and then paddling east. Not much wind but still a bit old swell in from the side of Boköfjärden. Arriving at Bockö up with tents in the last light.
After a while, and Janina belonged to Henry himself. They had started somewhat later and stopped for food in Pukavik, so it was pitch dark when they arrived. But the starry night and headlamps work fine.
Uppesittarkväll around quite a small fire with much smoke, go to bed before eleven ..

Saturday morning

I had set the clock at half past six, but woke up early, even before the weather, a quick glance out of the tent valve gossiped that it probably would be a nice morning. So after the shipping forecast and "At the start of the day" (about Zen Buddhism and mosquitoes ..) took Heidi and I walk through the forest up the mountain.
The sun appeared yet when we arrived so we sat for a moment and leaned against the cairn. Completely still in the air and only a lone fishing boat outside Brorsö. Essential for a while began to sense a blood-red disc that penetrated through the clouds on the horizon. Fantastic start to the day ..

Back at the tents Heidi took an extra nap while I sat on the coffee water. After a few cups of the rest of the gang began to move. Just in time for breakfast, came stealthily and rain clouds hung low in the air. Peter and Marja paddled in and picked Stefan who drove up late at night.
A few splashes this morning gave more tents rest and did we not got in the kayaks until after lunch ..

Cloudy

Still a lot of clouds but no more rain. The plan was first to paddle out to Tjärö to see if it possibly went to buy some ice cream. But then Marja that she had been passing Spjutsö on an island with lots of nests, so after Alböle we turned east. On the outside of Eneskärvet we saw a lone eagle before we went ashore on froze Tens Seized.

Check nests

Coffee was cold Tens Seized

We walked a long walk straight through the whole island, not just when you combine the bare-legged and nettles .. There were indeed lots of nests, and we also found a lot of blackberries. Now the sun peeping out again and we had a nice afternoon snack.

The sun comes back

Get firewood

Now while we were so close, we took the turn past the Tjärö too. And although there were probably some ice cream left, but even better, it was served coffee and carrot cake at the hostel! Then when we sat and had coffee, we came on that maybe went to buy off some wood too .. Jomana, it fixed itself with the ..

So, each with a piece of wood in the kayak we went home again. Now it had cleared up even more and it was a fantastic paddling back against Bockö. No wind and the sun in his eyes meant that there was no hurry now. Just a quick sprint to the end, to get a little extra hot before evening swim ..

Saturday Camp

When we were on Tjärö Festival three weeks ago, it was really comfortable in the water but now approached the zero point. Eric o Pia mentioned 8.5 ° on their blog and it did probably quite right ..
Well, some quick clean-up after a day in the kayak, to remove the worst neoprenlukten before matbestyren. Will probably better so, for everyone's comfort ..

.. Food

But before the food it was time for Saturday candy, Peter offered whiskytoddy and Heidi o I picked up blueberry & raspberry pie. A walk up to the mound again before it got really dark, making it easier to bring the evening meal late ..
This time we got more trifling on the fire, at first somewhat reluctantly, but in the end it was burning well. Do we sat up at around half past ten, as usual, before it was bedtime. It's the best of autumn, it is ok to go o bed early and you get plenty of beauty sleep without having to risk being woken in the early morning of a million birds ..

Saturday evening

Grinders & spindeväv

When I peeked out of the tent on Sunday morning the fog was dense. Shoot, not much to see, so you might as well sleep a little longer. But after a while, I am usually a little restless, sleep's iofs not entirely wrong but that one can do equally well in town ..
So after some coffee, I took a walk again. Not as grand as yesterday but quite nice to walk around in peace and quiet for a while, visit the sheep and check out the cobwebs. Amazing what they are diligent in just a few hours ..

The fog came and went all day, sometimes penetrated by the sun but the next minute you could barely see anything. No stress this morning either, and we started probably not pack up until just before lunch.
We paddled east around Bockö, past Harö down to Tärnö. Some of us took the opportunity to weave around in among the rocks. It is both fun and good exercise, oh it was not much else to see anyway ..

After rounding the southern tip Tarnos eased fog up again. A little sälspaning before lunch, afternoon snack on the western tip. Cannon's nice to lie on your back and feel the sun on your face. Maybe the last time you can run barefoot on the rocks this year ..

Eventually it was time to take off for home again. Nice paddling back towards Nytäppet via Fölsö and Eastern Bokö. After having loaded the kayaks, it was a last dip, too. Still just as cold but easier when you can jump in from the jetty. Top Coffee in Pukan on the way back, as usual ..

Some times we have been much more on these tours but this year we were only ten in the end. While it is fun with large groups as well, but I have to admit that you relax more when there are fewer. Especially as tour leader .. Although mischievous weather a week before it became a real party weekend to end! Fine paddling, good company and just the right pace. And autumn is a good time to spend in the archipelago, still decent heat, but not as crowded as during the peak season. Fixed iofs well most times good to spend just in the archipelago ..

Paddled 3 +16 +12 km.

Did not that unsightly later this week either;) On Valö it was very bad Blackberries, but only one in a hundred that were ripe. A little lean ... Did get sloes instead, but they do not attract as much to stop directly in the mouth, at least not after they felt the taste of it first;)

Eric: Nah, there was no real order of mognadet of brumbären (great name in Danish ..) on Bockö either, location of some EU stanadrdisering maybe .. Sloes, I have not tested this - but I have faith enough in your words .. But what do you do with them really, except liqueur that is ..? O are needed in so many cases, or would a per bottle ..? Appeared to be an redigt party if one may judge by your pictures is born.

Jim: There are many fine trees on Bockö but the apple tree at the point right at the campground is a favorite. It grows on a small patch of grass in the middle among the rocks o stone but still get lots of fruit each year. Moreover, it has a nice slope to the east by the prevailing west wind ..

Nice b / w photos on your flickr page, by the way, like "maximum reach" ..
